Lipofilling

Injection of purified autologous fat from your own body is known as lipofilling or lipostructuring. The fat is harvested by gentle liposuction with specialized cannulas from the typical problem zones ( i.e. inner thighs, lower abdomen, hips, etc.). A specialized injection technique improves survival of the fat cells and allows exact placement and dosage of the fat cells. In the face, micro-fat injections are used as a natural filling substance (“filler”) to correct structural asymmetries, volume losses in the midface, profile enhancement, lip enhancement and scar improvement.

Usually, only several milliliters are necessary to achieve the desired result. Depending on several factors, a certain fraction of the fat disappears again. Therefore, 1-2 repetitive injections with smaller volumes are sometimes needed for an optimal result. All remaining fat cells actually represent a permanent natural filler, which does not need regular replenishment after several months like hyaluronic acid fillers.

Both harvest and injection of the fat cells can be performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting.

Larger volume corrections on the trunk, the breasts and the extremities can be planned as well, but are performed in an inpatient setting (see the respective chapters on this website).
